Amir Khadir, MD

Amir Khadir is a specialist in Infectious diseases and Medical microbiology practicing in Hôpital Pierre-LeGardeur, a community hospital in the Montreal metropolitan area, where he has practiced since 1997.

Dr Khadir has implemented in 2019 the first clinic dedicated to the treatment of vector borne diseases operating within the public sector facilities of the Quebec health system. More than 500 patients have been evaluated at the «Centre des maladies à transmission vectorielle» which offers specialized care for patients with persistent symptoms attributed to Lyme disease (chronic Lyme, PTLDS or otherwise defined chronic complications of Lyme disease).

Dr Khadir spearheaded a petition in 2017 that brought the Health Commission of the National Assembly to recommend the implementation of a Lyme disease action plan by the Quebec health ministry. He took part in the advocacy work by patient groups that brought the Quebec government to announce in May 2022 the creation of a network of 5 referral centers and 10 satellite clinics, called RQMCC, to improve diagnostic and therapeutic management of patients with chronic multisystem syndromes such as persistent Lyme disease. Dr Khadir is member of the national steering committee of RQMCC.

Between 2008 and 2018, Amir Khadir was a member of the National Assembly of Quebec, where he entered as the first deputy for Québec solidaire, a party founded in 2006 and of which he was spokesperson. The party has now 12 seats in the National Assembly.
